TX-041 Celebrates a Successful Year

December 31, 2019

Civil Air Patrol George H W Bush Composite Squadron TX-041 celebrated its annual awards dinner on Dec. 17, 2019. An amazing guest speaker, Colonel Sherri LeVan, USAF, spoke of her desire to help ROTC and CAP cadets succeed in life through her role as the Commander of Detachment 805, Texas A&M’s Air Force ROTC Program. (A separate article is being prepared on her career and highlights of her speech.)

Our current Squadron Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas McLarty, CAP, must have worked overtime in writing the amazing narratives which he read out loud to accompany several awards that he presented to members. He has devoted many hours toward leading our squadron during this year of transitions, and deserves his own special award and recognition for his outstanding dedication and service. We are deeply grateful for his exhaustive efforts on behalf of our squadron, which he led into its creation nearly a dozen years ago… when its inaugural ceremony was attended by former President George H W Bush!

We were greatly honored to have Southwest Region Commander, CAP, Colonel Joe R Smith and his lovely wife, CAP Lieutenant Colonel Harriet Smith, on-hand to take part in presentations and in the swearing-in ceremony of Lieutenant Colonel Seth D Hudson (our Character Development Instructor and Assistant Aerospace Education Officer.) Lieutenant Colonel Hudson’s beautiful wife, Sandy, and baby son, Ryan, attended, as well.

Cadet Captain Matthew McGee, our Cadet Commander, was an outstanding master of ceremonies. He was charming and competent as he successfully tackled what may have been a new and difficult role at the podium. Well done, C/Capt McGee!

The evening was made even more special by the attendance of the families of several cadets, even of those cadets who were not receiving special recognition. What a wonderful show of support! We are always delighted to meet the parents, siblings and other family members and friends of all of our members. (Photographs show the cadets who received special awards and the groups of families or friends.)

We were delighted to see from out-of-town our former squadron commander and his wife, our former director of cadet programs, with their darling infant daughter (Lieutenant Colonel Forest Allen, Captain Jessica Allen and Ellie Allen.) In fact, three beautiful babies attended the awards dinner and behaved beautifully…in about twelve years, we expect them all to become cadets in Civil Air Patrol!
