Civil Air Patrol – Programs and What They Offer

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. This volunteer, nonprofit organization serves communities, saves lives, and develops future leaders. CAP offers opportunities for youth and adults through four main programs:

1. Aerospace Education

CAP promotes aerospace knowledge for both its members and the public.

• For Members: Hands-on learning in aviation, space, rocketry, and STEM. Members can participate in drone programs, model rocketry, and orientation flights in CAP aircraft.

• For Educators: CAP provides free aerospace/STEM curriculum, teacher workshops, and classroom STEM kits.

• STEM Opportunities: Robotics, weather science, engineering projects, and space studies.

2. Cadet Program (Ages 12–21)

The Cadet Program develops leadership, discipline, and a passion for aerospace through four core areas:

• Aerospace Education – Study flight, space exploration, and technology.

• Leadership Training – Learn teamwork, communication, and responsibility.

• Physical Fitness – Build healthy habits and meet CAP’s fitness challenges.

• Character Development – Strengthen integrity, respect, and service values.

Cadets can advance in rank, attend academies, and can even train for a pilot’s license.

3. Emergency Services

CAP members train to support real-world missions:

• Search and Rescue (SAR) – Locate missing aircraft or persons with ground and air teams.

• Disaster Relief – Deliver supplies, provide aerial imagery, and assist recovery efforts.

• Humanitarian Services – Transport medical supplies, blood, and relief materials.

• Air Force Support – Perform non-combat missions for the U.S. Air Force.

Members can earn specialized qualifications in communications, first aid, land nav, survival and more.

4. Senior Member Program (Ages 18+)

The Senior Member Program is for adults who want to serve their communities, mentor cadets, and continue learning.

• No Military Obligation – Open to all professions and backgrounds.

• Flexible Involvement – Choose from roles in administration, instruction, flying, emergency services, or technical specialties.

• Training & Education – Access leadership training, professional development, and mission certifications.

• Mentorship – Guide cadets and help shape future leaders.
